• Stage 1 - Pre Filter (Common in each case) [Fitted with polypropylene (PP) Spun 10", pore size 5 micron] Captures all particles larger than 5 microns ( clay, sand, rust, colour, heavy metal etc.) and then supplies crystal clean and clear water to sediment filter. (Usually need to replace at interval of 5-6 months in normal water conditions).
  • Stage 2 - Sediment Filter (Common in each case) [absolute 5 microns] made from polypropylene & sediment special cloths. Polypropylene is resistant to bacterial growth. The filter captures suspended particles such as sand, silt, loose scale, clay and organic material from the water those if passed from prefilter and then goes to activated block carbon filter.
  • Stage 3 - Activated Carbon Block Filter (Common in each case) [1000 IV] Made from activated carbon in solid cylindrical block The carbon filter block absorbs harmful chemicals, toxic substances, iodine, chlorine etc., removes odour, and enhances water taste. We the KNL uses only activated block carbon over charcoal granules. Charcoal granules (filled half in filter) floats when water goes through and cannot absorbs the chlorine and impurities properly.
  • Stage 4 - KNL NF20/NF40/NF60/NF80/RO Membranes. Feed water passes through the membrane. The different categories of membranes have pore sizes (0.0015, 0.001, 0.0005, 0.0002 & 0.0001) microns respectively. NF/RO membrane TDS rejections rates are 15%, 45%, 65%, 80% and 96% respectively with variation of ± 5% and ± 3% with RO membrane. Flux rates are around (32, 26, 25, 23 and 20) litres respectively. These membranes remove arsenic, mercury, lead, cyanide, bromide, pesticides, herbicides, VOCs, bacteria, protozoa, viruses, germs, microbes, colour, smell and all other contaminants from feed water and flushes them through rejected water. The NF/ RO membrane pore sizes are much smaller than the germs and impurities found in water. Therefore membrane based technology provides healthier drinking water when compared to TDS adjuster/ controller technology. Please note the result may vary a little due to water hardness components and other factors.
  • Stage 5 - Activated Post Carbon (common in each case) [Coconut shell] the post carbon as a part of UF filter is made from activated coconut shell granules. Half part is filled with coconut granules & half part is UF filter. Coconut granules is antibacterial agents and therefore inhibits the bacterial growth and enhances drinking water taste.
  • Stage 6 - AAA Filter (optional but very useful) [PH Cartridge] the filter is used to enhance pH of membrane treated water. The filter adds up to pH 3.0 and a little necessary minerals too. Normally membrane reduces pH of feed water. N F20, NF40, NF60, NF80 & RO reduces pH between [0. 2 to 0.4], [0.5 to O.7], [0.7 to 1.0], [1.0 to 1.5] & [1.5 to 2.O] respectively. Therefore, KNL uses regulator to achieve balanced pH in drinking water. The pH cartridge contains different kind of ceramic balls (basically natural stones) and coconut shell charcoal granules. These stones are enriched in with essential minerals and contains high pH value too. Therefore when water passes through the cartridge, the pH getting enhanced. There is no chemical but all are natural. We use regulator here to achieve balanced pH in drinking water.
  • Stage 7 - SS 304 UV Chamber [Optional part]. Steel does not react with water but aluminium leaches aluminium oxide which contaminates drinking water. Aluminium oxide causes brain related health problem in a long run. The UV [ultraviolet rays] emits radiation that kill the germs of the water. The NF/RO membrane is sufficient enough and does the job, however, UV can be added for further peace of mind.
  • Other membrane those are not used by KNL.
  • 1. UF (Ultra Filter) membrane commonly used in UV UF model water purifier. It works on tap water gravity pressure and does not reduces TDS. The inflow and outflow of feed water normally remain same. That means pores of the membrane is much bigger and cannot eliminate impurities and germs from the water but only silt & sand particles. Water wastage in such case is zero.
  • 2. MF (Micro filter) membrane rarely used and works little bit better than UF membrane. It works also on tap water gravity pressure and does not reduces TDS. The inflow and outflow of the water will not be equal in this case but may be half. MF is also not capable to remove impurities and germs from the feed water.
"Currently Indian market flooded with common technology called TDS controller/adjuster/MTD (taste enhancer) etc. basically bypassed system that allows raw water to mix with membrane treated water to increase TDS. But the system allows impurities back into drinking water."
